2. Using the cutters snip the next “ring” up from the currently cut end of the coil. Place the flat side of the diagonal cutters as close to the snipped end of the coil as possible. ONLY place your cutters as wide as the next ring’s wire width. Do not allow the tips to extend to the next ring.
3. Continue cutting off rings in the same fashion until you’ve reached the end of the coil. You might have a partial ring left over or a small section of wire. Simply discard.
What Do I Do Next?
That’s simple. Coil more wire and then cut more rings! Your 1 lb spool of welding wire should make the following number of coils and then rings:
Each mandrel has about 16” of usable length.
Each 1 lb spool of wire contains about 280 feet of wire.
Each 16” long coil uses about 20.5 feet of wire.
280 feet of wire divided by 20.5 feet of wire/coil makes about 13 coils.
A 16” length of coil makes about 250 rings.
Therefore 13 coils multiplied by 250 rings/coils is a total of about 3250 rings!
